Machinery of Night

Join us at Typewriters Anonymous for Machinery of Night an immersive poetry experience in celebration of newly published works by There's Only Peace in Death Press: Dealer by Iván Salinas and Shake Hands with the Man in my Hand by Daryl Gussin. Performances by Duncan Cuervo, Phillip T. Nails, Rhiannon Cielos Chavez, Daryl Gussin, and a special set featuring electric guitar and spoken word by Cascajo (Iván Salinas + Raul Garcia).

 About the authors:

Iván Salinas is a Mexican poet and zinerster based in the 818. He's the co-founder of Drifter Zine and is current Programs Manager at Beyond Baroque Literary Arts Center in Venice, California. His literary work has been published in The Acentos Review, Broken Lens Journal, Author Popups, and elsewhere.

Raul Garcia is a songwriter from Mexico City based in L.A. Influences include the songwriting of The Kinks, the guitar playing of Santana, the raw energy of the Minutemen, and the endless pocket of Parliament/Funkadelic. Whether he's playing solo or with a backing band, Raul's live set is his bedroom recording project come to life.

Daryl Gussin is a writer and musician who has been awkwardly standing around at punk shows for the last twenty-something years. Thankfully at some point in his late teens he decided to become a little more productive, and has been working on zines, setting up shows, and playing in bands consecutively since then. His focus revolves around the honest, bittersweet, and ultimately triumphant aspects of counterculture and its flavorful inhabitants. The heartbreaks, the implosions, and the defiant victories. Community over commercialism, create and destroy.

Rhiannon Cielos Chavez is a trans masculine whitewashed Mexican poet from Los Angeles, California. They enjoy chasing deer, drinking beer, and talking to their dead dad. Rhiannon has one chapbook out, Beer Hunter, which he prints from the Canon MX492 in his bedroom. Ask him if he can print you one (@rampage_doggo on IG). You can find his work in Jefferson Journal, Mobile Data Mag, Main Squeeze, zines & things, and more.

Duncan Cuervo is an Irish Mexican writer and librarian based in Los Angeles, California. When not suffocated with the weight of writer’s block, they spend their time on the bus adventuring the underbelly of their home and cultivating dying plants. When crushed by reality of needing a day job they find themselves working as a librarian trying to teach people how to use the Dewey Decimal system while also explaining its many shortcomings.

Phillip T. Nails is a lovechild born at the base of Mt. Diablo in Northern California. He was first put in touch with the muse when some Beat poets visited his high school at it was then, Nails decided he wanted to be a performance poet. Decades later, Nails continues in the lineage of The Beats and has studied with poets and performance artists Brett Bevell, Tim Miller, Mary Overlie and Guillermo Gómez-Peña. It is in these veins that Nails explores poetry and performance.
